Crossing of Chios
Embarking on a 4-day trekking adventure across Chios Island, from the medieval village of Avgonima to the northern village of Volissos, is a journey rich in history, natural beauty, and cultural immersion. The trip begins in Avgonima, an 11th century stone-built village perched high on a hill with breathtaking views of the Aegean Sea. On the first day, the group follows ancient cobblestone paths through pine forests, passing by active monasteries and charming villages that reveal Chios’ medieval past.

Day 1
✈️🚶♀️ Arrival in Chios by boat or plane and a walking tour in the orchards of Kambos (2-3 hours) for those arriving in the morning.🚐 Transfer by cars or minivan to Avgonyma.🌅
🍽️ 19:00: Enjoy sunset in Avgonyma and dinner at the square.
📋 20:30: Briefing on Friday’s route: Avgonyma, Agii Pateres Monastery, Nea Moni, Agios Platon, Fa – Lithio.
🛏️ Overnight stay in double triple or quad rooms.
Day 2
☕ 08:00: Breakfast at Cpitakia Café.
🚶♂️ 🥾 09:00 Depart on foot to Nea Moni (mainly uphill hike, about 1.5 -2 hours). A lot of orchids in flower will possibly delay us for photoshooting.
⛪ 10:30: Visit Agii Pateres Monastery and the cave-church.
🕍 11:30: Visit Nea Moni (monastery, refectory, museum, ossuary, and cistern).
🥪 13:00: Picnic outside Nea Moni.
🥾 13:30: Hiking towards Fa.
🏞️ 15:45: Arrival at Fa.
👟 16:00: Hike from Fa to Lithio.
🏖️ 18:00: Arrival at Lithio and sunset swim.
🦑 🍽️ 18:30: Seafood dinner in Lithi.
📋 20:00: Briefing on Sunday’s hiking route.
🛏️ Overnight in double and quad rooms.
🚐 21:00: Return to Avgonyma by minivan or bus.
Day 3
☕ 08:00: Breakfast at Cpitakia Café.
🚐 09:00 Depart by road for Anavatos.
🚶♀️ 🥾 09:15 Hiking route to Agios Isidoros in Pityos.
⛪ 🚐 15:30: Arrival at Agios Isidoros and transfer to Pityos by road.
🍽️ 16:30: Lunch in the village tasting the unique dishes of the village and visit the tower, the old olive press, and the wood-fired oven.
🚐 18:30: Depart by road to Volissos and stay at Zorbas apartments.
🍹 Free evening for drinks, strolls in Volissos, and rest.
🛏️ Overnight in double triple or quad rooms.
Day 4
☕ 08:00: Breakfast at Zorbas apartments.
🏺 09:00: Visit the archaeological collection in Volissos.
🚐 09:30: Depart by road to Chalandra.
🚶 🥾 10:00: Hike to Egrigoros and Ariousios winery.
🍷 12:15: Tour and wine tasting at Ariousios winery.
🚶 🥾 13:30: Depart for hike from Egrigoros to Agiasmata.
🍽️ 15:00: Lunch with local cheeses, omelets, and salad at the traditional café.
🚐 17:00: Depart for Chios.
🚢✈️ 20:00-22:30: Departure from Chios by boat or plane.
